Everyone talks about stimulating the economy - get things moving again! People need to spend more money!
The issue is businesses are finding it difficult to make ends meet
and are laying off workers. Those workers don’t have money to spend in
other businesses. People who are working are keeping more of their
money in their pockets because things are getting more expensive as
inflation rises. Now, some in government want the government to spend
the money on the unemployed workers, who they say need the money most.
Others want the government to give the money to everyone so they will
go out and spend it.They are missing the problem.
On some of the policy activist sites, you see complaints that this
stimulus package only benefits the rich or only benefits the poor.
They are missing the point.
I don’t know anyone who can intelligently make the case that
government doesn’t spend enough money. That is not the problem - and
while outside the box thinking is fine, outside the planet thinking is
another story. Beware when both sides of the aisle agree on something
having to do with money.
The point is not who should benefit from government handouts. There should not be government handouts - with a very small number of exceptions.
The government is proposing giving money it does not actually have
to businesses and people, which they received from businesses and
people in order to take more money from businesses and people when they
spend it. This is the governments answer to stimulating the economy?
No, this is the government’s answer to buying your vote. They all agree
on this not because it makes good fiscal policy, but because they want
to be able to make the case in November that they were the ones who
gave you money.
You really want to stimulate the economy? Stop playing to the “what’s in it for me” gene we all have.
How about pay down our debt, stop spending so much, stop taking so much of everyone’s money and watch prices come down?
